The opening of the Cloughjordan Ecovillage’s annual celebration of apples and community takes place at the Community Amphitheatre with a wonderful evening programme of stories, spoken word and music that showcase local and national talent.
This is the last event of the season on the community amphitheatre and part of the European Day of Sustainable Communities.

On Sunday the 19th a ‘pop up’ Farmers Market with food, craft and information stalls will be held at the WeCreate Workspace. Bring your apples for mashing and pressing and, if you have an apple pie or tart recipe you are proud of, consider entering the Apple Bake contest.
There will be tours of the ecovillage and community farm and also talks, workshops on local food, community power and transformative learning. Dancer Rita Marcalo (Instant Dissidence) will introduce short films from her dance project examining our connection with nature and our role within our food systems. Play Connect 4 Resilience or giant eco-jenga, dance at the Little Green Disco and enjoy some original music at the Blue Door – Open Mic Sessions showcasing upcoming, independent artists from the Midlands.
This exciting programme celebrating apples and community starts at 1pm on Sunday 19th September at WeCreate Workspace, which is located off the Shinrone Road entrance to Ecovillage. Full details can be found on the events page on www.thevillage.ie

13.00 – 18.00 – Market and Food Stalls ( Food Hub), ‘Appledashery’ -Bring your apples for pressing. (Night Orchard) Games (Giant Jenga and Connect 4 Resilience)
13.00 – Opening Apple Bake Contest (In memory of Devyn)
Submissions – Bring your bake to WeCreate from 13.00 to 15.00
Three categories – a. Under 15s b. Home Bakers c. some professional experience’
The announcement of the winners takes place at 17.00
14.00 – ‘Community-Led and Cooperative Local Food Systems’
An introduction to Cloughjordan Community Farm’s Food Hub. In this session the benefits of the North Tipperary Farmers Market will be outlined and a demonstration of its use given. The opportunities for capacity building through the Open Training Network and for all communities using the OFN platform will also be introduced.
15.00 – 18.00 – Blue Door – Open Mic Sessions (Food Hub)
Showcasing upcoming, independent artists from the Midlands. Come and enjoy some original music. If you are interested in performing email Joanna at [email protected]
15.00 – Ecovillage Tours and Presentation

15.00 – ‘Community Power’
A short presentation outlining the benefits of local energy from Ireland’s only Community Owned Renewable Electricity Supplier – communitypower.ie
15.30 WeCreate Fab Lab Tour
An opportunity to see the Digital Fabrication Lab and find out what can be made here.
16.00 – ‘Transformative Learning and Communities of Practice’
Presentation from Peadar Kirby on transformative learning. Plus an introduction to the ‘Communities of Practice’ from Cultivate.
16.30 – Instant Dissidence Film Screenings – Dancing With Eco Farmers
Rita Marcalo (Instant Dissidence) introduces the result of her Summer iteration of … As If Trying Not To Own The Earth, a dance project examining our connection with nature and our role within our food system in the context of climate justice. The short films highlight a need to reconnect with our bodies and with the Earth in a way that is sustainable.
17.00 – Apple Bake Contest
Announcement of the winners of the three categories.
