Building in the Ecovillage
You can design your own home or choose from a number of designs drawn up by ecological architects. Some examples of these can be seen below and on the Live Work Units page. For more information or detailed drawings contact us on office@thevillage.ie
Building Costs
The cost of house construction varies widely. The biggest determinant is the size of the house planned and the level of detail in the design. There are significant savings possible if one takes a project management role. If you are employing a builder to build your house from scratch, construction is getting much more affordable with the cost of timber frame construction, for example, coming down a lot over the last couple of years.
A useful, if very general, guide is to expect anywhere from €800 per sqm for self-builders to €1,500 per sqm for some of the most expensive ‘turn key’ houses. These estimates are based on quotations received from a number of builders for some of the available house designs.
